TOUR - Spiral Jetty

21 April 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Perfect for Macans and Cayennes! Suitable for all the rest.

We currently have offers of backseats from 3 vehicles. Let me know if you want a ride from the GSNHS to the Jetty.

Who wants to see a piece of man-made art that also can be seen from space?

Spiral Jetty is located 15 miles south of Golden Spike National Historic Site (GSNHS...we were there three years ago).  This is a Cayenne/Macan off road tour but all Porsches are welcome to GSNHS. It is a mix of gravel and dirt roads out to the jetty.  It can be very dusty/muddy depending on the obvious.  Your stock Porsche has the necessary ground clearance and off road tires aren't needed.  We are bound to see other types of cars (Subie, GM, Ford, etc.,) that have a bit more clearance.

The pre-tour meeting will be at Grounds For Coffee (Pam's place) at 375 State Street in Clearfield at 10:00 a.m.  Safety brief and waiver signing at 10:30 and on the road not later than 11:00.  First stop will be just past Corinne, Utah, at the Bear River Co-Op.  Gas, bathrooms and food are available. Second stop (final for Porsche cars) is at the GSNHS visitors' center.  This is the last "indoor" bathroom stop.  The visitors' center itself doesn't open for tours until the second week in May, but they have nice bathrooms that are open year 'round.

Please let me know if you know you are going on the tour and are willing to take a passenger or two from the GSNHS to the Jetty. Also let me know if you are looking for a ride to the Jetty from the GSNHS. We will do our best to accommodate.

We leave for the last leg of the jetty journey after that pit stop.  As for phone reception, the vistors' center parking lot might be the last place we'll have it.  After that, it is "hit or miss" with "miss" being the norm.

Once at the jetty, I'd like us to park as close together as we can for a photo op.  The Spiral Jetty is very visible (and a short walk) from the road since the GSL has receded.  It is a 1,500 foot spiral, 15 feet wide, made of black basalt rock covered in a thick salt crust.  Truly a sight to experience...

This is where the tour concludes.  Weather permitting, we can enjoy our snacks and do a little exploring.  Please come with us and enjoy a grand view!
