DESCRIPTION:IRPCA invites you to a High Performance Driver Education Event at Utah Motorsports Campus!\nJoin us for two fun days, September 29th and 30th . We'll be using the West Track on Friday, and the East Track configuration on Saturday. This makes it easier to learn and add to the variety of the two days!\nOpen to all licensed drivers. PCA trained and recognized driving instructors are available as part of your entry fee as a new participant. While the article and its photos are written from the perspective of another region in the club, just about everything in the description of the experience is identical to our track days. That’s simply because the events are run under some very strict safety and preparation guidelines that all PCA regions must adhere to, and all of the participants are the same kind of helpful PCA members that you find at pretty much any PCA track day, anywhere.\n\n\nHave a look at the article. When you want to learn more about our IRPCA event specific preparation, you can visit the registration site. If you go to the registration site, you are not required to sign up right away. There’s lots of information in there for you to become comfortable and digest first, including forms for you to have you car teched in advance. You can come back to register later.\nHere is the information / registration site --> msreg ( http://msreg.com/irpca2023-hpde-3 )\n \nEvent requirements\n\nHigh Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) is designed to improve your driving skills and learn techniques at speed. UMC is a terrific facility with lots of amenities like paved parking, gas pumps and real bathrooms.\nYou do not have to be a PCA member to participate, nor do you need to bring your Porsche! We expect a number of BMWs, Audis and other makes on the track.  There are also safety requirements for you and your car. These include Snell M 2015, SA 2015 or later rated helmets, and closed toe shoes.\nPlease indicate your level of experience on the registration form.\nSchedule is TBD - check out this sample schedule to get an idea of how our event will flow.\n\nRegistration typically runs from 7am-8am\nAM Drivers meeting will likely be around 7:30am\nEvery run group generally gets 4-6 run sessions per day, with about 2 hours of track time per day\nEach day will wrap up at around 5:30pm\n\nYour car must have had a Full Tech inspection within the last 30 days prior to this event.\nFind a full list of recommended inspection shops here: http://irpca.org/track-events/resources-rules/hpde-tech-approved-shops\nUse the Safety Inspection Form found here: http://irpca.org/wp-content/uploads/DE/DE_Forms/TECH_FORM_IRPCA.pdf\nA Top Tech will be performed at the track before you go to registration. Look for the guys with clipboards out in front of registration. You will be sent back to the paddock from registration if you have not done this and don't have your form.\nDriver's Education Information\nWe look forward to having an extremely fun and safe event. We intend to follow PCA and Intermountain Region PCA guidelines during this event.\nThe Driver's Education program is based on a non-competitive format. We will not keep track of lap times.\nRequired equipment:\n\nA car that can pass a tech inspection, which must be current within 30 days of the event. Fill out the Tech Guidelines provided in the links above and turn it in at the registration table. You are responsible to make sure that your car is safe for high-speed use. If you have any concerns, contact the DE Chair: de@irpca.org ( mailto:de@irpca.org )\nShorts and short sleeved shirts will be acceptable for this event. Cotton is OK. Fire resistant materials are recommended.\nClosed toe shoes made of cotton or leather. Socks are required.\nHelmets rated Snell M 2015, SA 2015 or newer. DOT and motocross helmets are not permitted.\n\nIf you need to rent a helmet, please contact Utah Motorsports Campus for details\n\n\nStock 3 point seatbelts are fine. If the participant chooses to install a five, six, or seven point driving harness, several changes to the automobile must be made to create a safe occupant restraint system. Harnesses must:\n\nInclude an antisubmarine strap.\nFive, six or seven point SFI or FIA approved competition harnesses are required to be properly mounted in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. Belts must be replaced no later than five years after the date of manufacture. It is left to the owners discretion as to whether the belts should be replaced more frequently than required.\nHave all harness attachment points secured/mounted in an approved manner consistent with the manufacturer’s instructions.\nBe used in conjunction with a seat that has the supplied routing holes for the shoulder and antisubmarine belts.\nHave the shoulder straps mounted in an approved manner consistent with the manufacturer’s instructions.\nThe participant should BE AWARE that the addition of such a seat and harness system results in the occupant being fastened upright in the vehicle. Therefore, in order to have a COMPLETE SYSTEM, a properly padded roll bar or roll cage is recommended, and an approved head and neck restraint device is required. A head and neck restraint device certified as meeting the standards of either SFI 38.1 or FIA 8858 or its successor is required.  The use of such a harness system without roll protection and a head and neck restraint device may result in an unsafe environment and is not a COMPLETE SYSTEM. Roll bars or cages and their installation must meet PCA Club Racing Standards.\nEqual Safety Rule - if used, the passenger seat must have as much or more protection than the driver. This is to insure that instructors and students are both safe in every car.\n\n\nBrake lights must work, steering must not be loose, brakes should feel firm, suspension and wheel bearings should be checked for tightness.\nThe car's contents must be cleared out prior to entering onto the track. Batteries must be secured.\nNumbers on both sides of the car must be a contrasting color to car body and be at least eight inches tall. Taller numbers are recommended at this track.\nNo Convertibles without roll-over protection. Porsche Boxsters and 996, 997, & 991 Cabriolets have Factory roll-over protection.  Earlier cars must add a Roll Bar or Roll Cage.\n\nOpen-wheel cars are not permitted\nRace Cars are OK, provided that they can either pass the Standard Safety Inspection without exception to any rule, or have a current logbook and anual tech from a recognized racing association.\n\n\n If at any time you feel you need instruction, ask for an instructor. This track can be tricky and has several high-speed turns.\n\nNeed a track map or video walkthrough? Go here: http://irpca.org/track-events/resources-rules/track-maps\nNo passengers are allowed except for approved instructors (with identification) and their students.\nBe safe on the track and in the pits. The Number One objective of novice drivers on a track should be to become aware of other traffic. Number two objective is to be aware of how your car responds to input.\nThere will be a “three spins and you're out” rule enforced for this event. If you have more than two spins during the event you will be asked to leave. Following each spin anywhere on or off the track, you will receive a black flag telling you to come into the pits safely to have a chat with the IRPCA member running that group. He will ask you to analyze what happened. If you don't know, you'll be asked to exit the track at that point. If you realize what happened, explain what you could do differently and you’ll be allowed back on the track.  Your car will also be given a quick look over for damage.\nYou are responsible to know the meaning of the flags listed here: http://irpca.org/track-events/resources-rules/track-flags\nLearn what the flags mean. Pay attention to the flag explanation in the drivers meeting. Also make sure you understand where passing is allowed. Passing at the wrong place or without a signal will result in expulsion.\nPass only on the straights and never in corners. Do not pass without being signaled by the driver that you are going to pass. Slower drivers should indicate your knowledge of cars about to pass you by pointing them past. You will not make friends by holding people up who are faster than you are.\nHave fun and learn to drive well!\n\n
